Subject Guide: Children's Literature

The Batchelder Award is given to the most outstanding children’s book originally published in a language other than English in a country other than the United States, and subsequently translated into English for publication in the United States.

This annotated bibliography (e-book), organizes geographically by world region and country, with descriptions of nearly 700 books representing more than 70 countries, is a valuable resource for librarians, teachers, and anyone else seeking to promote international understanding through children's literature. Like its predecessors, it will be an important tool for providing stories that will help children understand our differences while simultaneously demonstrating our common humanity.

The Carnegie Medal is one of the UK's oldest and most prestigious children's book awards. The Carnegie Medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book for children and young people.
