English 246 Women in Literature: Home

Throughout literary history, women have often been unwelcome participants in the field, to put it mildly. However, at various points there have been certain genres that have been the province of women writers. For this project, you will select one of the genres listed below and do research on that genre across time. The following areas should be part of your research: the nature and definition of the genre and the history of it, major works and authors in the genre, the reasons that women have been participants or even leaders in that genre, and the role of women in that genre today.

Genres: romance, mystery/crime, spiritual biography or autobiography, mystical writings (Christian mysticism), and young adult literature.
