Database Recommendations

The PsycInfo database offers citations from professional psychology journals as far back as the 1860s. 

There are over 5,000,000 records from 2,300 scholarly journals indexed in APA PsycInfo.

After reviewing results, check the box by citations you wish to export.

The medical journals found in the PubMed database have much to contribute to your neuroscience research. Give this database a try.

Searching

The basic search in PubMed will guide your keywords if you enter a single search topic.

Or, if you know a little about Boolean Operators (AND, OR, or NOT), you can use the ADVANCED SEARCH.

Also, experiment with truncation.  Take a word stem and add an asterisk (*) after the last letter. This search will retrieve multiple endings to your word--example, gene* will bring back genes, genetic, genetics, etc.

Filter Results

Boss around those results with filters. They will reduce the number of matches so use them wisely.

You can filter by date, article type, participants, language, and more.

Google Scholar is a free search engine that identifies scholarly literature.
On Google Scholar, look for the Advanced search under the menu on the left.
