SOC/SW/WS 308 - Social Gerontology
This Library Instruction workshop and LibGuide is focused on helping you with scholarly research discovery and integration with your observations from the field from your Service Learning research paper and presentation.
Excerpted from your course syllabus:
You will identify a concept in the sociology of aging or life event in the “grandparent’s” life (e.g., theory of aging, widowhood, major illness, or retirement) that will provide the focus for your final paper. As such, your visits will provide the data for the final paper. You are encouraged to share their service learning experiences in class, as this will enrich the discussions and bring theory and content to life.
You are required to submit an original paper (<100 points) and deliver a short presentation to the class (<100 points) based on your service learning experience. The paper is to be at least seven (7) and not more than ten (10) pages in length (including title page and reference page). Papers must adhere to the format of the American Psychological Association (see Publication manual of the American Psychological Association, 2009, 6th ed., Washington, DC: APA; see also http://www.apastyle.org.html) and be typed, double-spaced, on one side of the sheet only, and printed on 8½“ x 11" white paper. The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate your knowledge and application of sociological theories of aging, concepts, and content in aging, as well as your assessment of your learning.
